What is Toca Boca World?

Toca Boca World (also called Toca Life World) is an open-ended roleplay game with no rules, no score and no way to lose. You get characters, locations and thousands of objects — and the game politely steps back and lets you invent the rest.

That refusal to instruct is the whole design. Where most kids’ games hand out quests and stars, Toca Boca hands out a stage: an apartment, a hair salon, a shopping mall, a hospital, a school. What happens there is your player’s story, and no two sessions look the same.

How to play

1. Pick a character. Tap to select, drag to move them anywhere on screen.
2. Move between locations. Characters carry across scenes, which is what turns single rooms into a running story.
3. Combine everything. Food can be eaten, taps run, doors open, appliances work. If an object looks interactive, it usually is.
4. Style your cast. Wardrobes and mirrors let you change hair, clothes and looks mid-story.
5. Save nothing, lose nothing. There is no fail state, no timer and no scoreboard — you stop when the story ends.

Controls are the same drag-and-drop grammar the whole genre shares: tap to select, drag to move, drop to combine. Same as Avatar World’s controls, so kids move between the two without relearning anything.

What makes it special

The location count. This is the genre’s widest map. Homes, shops, restaurants, schools, hospitals, salons — each a fully interactive scene rather than a backdrop. Kids who love recurring characters and serial storytelling get the most out of it.

• Give characters jobs. A chef, a doctor, a student — roles turn aimless play into narrative fast.
• Reuse the same cast. Recurring characters across sessions build attachment and longer stories.
• Use the whole map. The best sessions move between three or four locations, not one.

Who it’s for

Best for ages ~6–10, and especially for kids who narrate out loud while they play. Younger players (4–7) often prefer the calmer, cozier scenes of Avatar World.
